Building a Life From Scratch

After I escaped, I didn’t have a roadmap. I didn’t have a plan. I didn’t have a family to fall back on or a community to guide me. What I had was determination - and a quiet, stubborn belief that I deserved a life that belonged to me.

Building that life was not glamorous. It was not linear. It was not easy. It was a series of small, deliberate choices: finding work, finding safety, finding my voice, finding the courage to keep going even when the past felt too heavy.

I built my life city by city, country by country - the UK, Malaysia, Australia, Globally and then back to Australia. I built it job by job, promotion by promotion, moment by moment. I built it through resilience, through independence, through the refusal to let what happened to me define what came next.

People sometimes assume that healing looks like softness. For me, healing looked like ambition. It looked like leadership. It looked like building a global career while carrying a story I never told. It looked like proving to myself, again and again, that I could create a future no one else could take away.

This journal is where I honour that rebuild - the strength it took, the fear it required and the freedom it gave me.
