Reclaiming My Voice

For years, I didn’t speak about what happened to me. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t know how. On the few occasions I shared my story, it was met with a mixed reaction of shock, horror, disbelief and left me feeling bad for inflicting my experience on someone else. I did not want pity, I wanted understanding and acceptance and not to feel like I am “damaged goods”. So I stopped talking because I did not want to be judged. Trauma steals your voice. It convinces you that silence is safer.

Writing Somebody Else’s Life gave me my voice back.

Every chapter was a reclamation. Every sentence was a declaration. Every truth was a step toward freedom.

My voice is mine now - and I intend to use it.
