The Quiet Work of Healing
Healing is not loud. It doesn’t announce itself. It doesn’t arrive in a single moment of clarity or triumph. For me, healing looked like small, almost invisible shifts - choosing honesty over silence, choosing presence over avoidance, choosing to stop running from a past that had already shaped me.
For years, I believed healing meant “moving on.” I thought it meant forgetting, erasing, or pretending the past had no power. But healing isn’t forgetting. Healing is remembering without breaking. It’s looking at the girl I once was - frightened, trapped, silenced - and recognising her strength instead of her suffering.
Writing Somebody Else’s Life forced me to confront the truth that healing is not linear. Some days I felt strong and grounded. Other days, memories surfaced that made me feel seventeen again, caught in a life I didn’t choose. But every time I wrote, I reclaimed a little more of myself.
Healing is choosing to live fully in the present while honouring the past that shaped you. It’s accepting that the story happened - and deciding that it will not define the rest of your life.
This journal is where I explore that quiet work. The rebuilding. The reclaiming. The moments of softness and the moments of strength. Healing isn’t a destination; it’s a practice. And every day, I choose it again.
Thank you for walking this journey with me.
