What Freedom Feels Like
Freedom is not loud. It doesn’t arrive with fireworks or grand declarations. For me, freedom feels like quiet mornings. Like choosing where I live. Like choosing who I speak to. Like choosing who I let into my life. Like choosing how I spend my time. Like choosing my own life - every day, in every way.
Freedom feels like safety. It feels like breath. It feels like possibility. It feels like opportunity.
It feels like sitting in my home in Australia, thousands of miles from the place where my life was taken from me and knowing that every decision I make now is mine.
Freedom feels like writing this memoir. It feels like telling the truth. It feels like reclaiming the girl I used to be and honouring the woman I’ve become.
For years, my life belonged to other people. Now, it belongs to me.
And that is what freedom feels like.
