Why This Story Matters

Forced marriage is not a relic of the past. It is not confined to certain countries or cultures. It is happening now - quietly, invisibly, in families that look loving from the outside. It is happening to girls who have dreams, ambitions and futures that are being rewritten without their consent.

My story is decades old, but the issue is not.

Every time I read about a girl being forced into marriage, I feel the same pull: this story matters now because it is still happening. It matters because silence still protects the wrong people. It matters because too many girls believe they have no way out.

Somebody Else’s Life is not just my memoir - it is a mirror held up to a reality that is often ignored. It is a reminder that forced marriage is not always violent, not always obvious, not always predictable. Sometimes it is disguised as love. Sometimes it is disguised as tradition. Sometimes it is disguised as family.

This story matters now because girls deserve better. They deserve choice. They deserve safety. They deserve futures that belong to them.

And they deserve to know that escape is possible - and that freedom is worth fighting for.
