There are moments in life that don’t announce themselves as turning points. They arrive quietly, disguised as ordinary choices. I remember standing in a doorway - not a symbolic one, a literal one - feeling the weight of a decision I didn’t yet understand. The air felt still, as if the world was holding its breath with me. I didn’t know it then, but the choice I made in that moment would redirect the entire course of my life. It wasn’t dramatic. It wasn’t loud. But it was mine, and that made it powerful. Sometimes the smallest decisions carry the greatest consequences. I faced many moments like this, where I stood at a crossroads, working out which decision to take, knowing each option took me on a completely different path. I know I consciously made those decisions, and I know what price I paid for the life I chose.
For years, my decisions were shaped by obligation, expectation and survival. I moved through life reacting rather than choosing. But that day, and on the many days after, something always shifted. I realised that even the smallest decision - a step forward, a boundary drawn, a truth acknowledged - could become the foundation for a new chapter. The decisions I made were not about rebellion; they were about alignment. Each decision point, I asked myself, “What do I want?” And when I answered honestly, I felt a quiet strength rise in me. That first moment taught me that change doesn’t always begin with grand gestures. Sometimes it begins with a single, steady choice to honour yourself.
