When Family Isn’t Safe

Family is supposed to be your first home. Your first safety. Your first love. But for many girls, family is also the first place where freedom is taken away.

It’s difficult to talk about harm that comes from people you still, in some way, love. It’s difficult to admit that loyalty can be used against you. It’s difficult to accept that the people who raised you can also be the people who break you or the people who compromise your personal safety. The betrayal, the realisation, the broken trust, it shapes you, it changes how you see the world and the people in it. It takes a long while before you trust someone completely.

But telling the truth about family is necessary. It’s how we protect the next generation. It’s how we challenge harmful traditions. It’s how we reclaim our own lives. It’s how we help others realise that they are not alone.

Family should never cost you your future.
